Joel’s Page of Wisdom
“Brilliant” he said as he scribbled down his glorious vision that would hopefully soon generate him a fortune and it was all conceived in a mere split-second. “Unbelievable” he said that someone else has not already capitalized on the invention that just raced through his mind. I call these “Brainfires” and I do believe that I made up this word. We all have these brainfires, but what successes could and should follow is completely up to us. Creation, devotion, and most importantly implementation. I moved to Hollywood, California in 1995, and was so inspired by the motion picture and television business, that it steered me away from my music for a short while as I starting banging out TV show ideas, made a few and no-budget films. Have you ever said to yourself; Hey, they stole my idea, or better yet, I thought of that first? Happens to me all the time. The smart thing that I’ve done, if it even matters, is that I have taken steps and can prove when I created my masterpieces. But so what. Did I profit from it? Usually not. I tell tale of all this because what you will see below here on my page of wisdom was often created five and sometimes even twenty years before it became the rage. And yes, I’m tooting my own horn, but that’s what a page of wisdom is, isn’t it? Case in point; before reality TV I saw the logic, as did most filmmakers in this low-cost, try to pay nobody entertainment. I put countless hours into writing and fine-tuning ideas for new television series. I shot a few pilots. I even made a few connections with industry giants and pitched my ideas to them only to be told in a nutshell, not interested. I will admit, I did a very poor job of pitching, but I think I know the secret now if you care to know. Now, some five years later, every one of my reality-based TV shows is on the air. Did they steal them? Maybe, but more likely than not, a guy smarter than I, did it right. He implemented. He made a visual marvel. He took the final step and created such a masterpiece with his concept that the networks realized that probably nobody could do a better job than this new-comer, so they gave him the money instead of me. I’m not talking just about filmmaking, or music, or even inventions that we dream up that we know will make life better, easier. What ever it is you are so inspired to create, take it to the end. So my final word on this is: Follow through. Implement. Make it so undenialably brilliant, that people are throwing their money at you. I will likely post some of my underdeveloped, newest creations (ownership protected of course) but it doesn’t really matter as someone will likely profit from it before I will anyway.
